Telegram introduced Stars as a way for users to pay for digital goods and services inside the app. If you've used TikRec and seen a recording locked behind "5 Stars" or "50 Stars," here's what that means and how it works.
What are Telegram Stars?
Stars are Telegram's built-in digital currency. You buy them with real money through the Telegram app (Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit card), and spend them on digital content from bots and channels.
Think of them like in-app credits. 1 Star costs roughly $0.02-0.03 depending on your payment method and region.
How to buy Telegram Stars
- Open any Telegram bot that accepts Stars (like @tikrec_live_bot)
- When you tap on paid content, Telegram prompts you to purchase Stars
- Choose an amount and pay through your app store's payment system
- Stars are added to your Telegram account instantly
You can also buy Stars proactively through Telegram Settings > My Stars.
How TikRec uses Stars
TikRec has two types of recordings:
Free recordings - When you add a creator to your watchlist and they go live, TikRec records the stream and sends the MP4 to your Telegram for free. No Stars needed. This is the core service.
Past recordings - Recordings from other users' watchlists are available in the TikRec archive. These can be unlocked with Stars. You're paying for access to a recording that someone else's watchlist captured.

What happens when you pay Stars
- You find a recording on tikrec.com or through the bot
- You click "Watch on Telegram" which opens the bot
- The bot shows you the recording with a "Unlock for X Stars" button
- You tap it, Telegram processes the payment
- The full MP4 is delivered to your chat immediately
If the delivery fails for any technical reason, you won't be charged. Telegram handles all payment processing - TikRec never sees your payment details.
Do you need Stars to use TikRec?
No. Stars are optional. The core feature - adding creators to your watchlist and receiving free recordings when they go live - costs nothing. Stars are only for accessing past recordings that you didn't record yourself.
Most TikRec users never spend Stars. They add their favorite creators to their watchlist and get every live recording delivered for free.
